Work With Me

To Teach is to Share…

This is why I have created my reading program!

I want to offer you the best practices in the field of teaching reading and writing, ones that I use in my own classroom and with my own children.

Specialized Reading Program

I teach children in the Long Island area who have difficulty reading , writing or spelling though very specific structured method based on the Science of Reading.

Learning to read using balanced literacy/guided reading/Fountas and Pinnell or the reading/writing workshop model (what all schools use) does not align with the specific needs of a child with dyslexia (specific disability in reading or writing) or any child that is struggling in these areas.

Reading difficulties do not get better without better instruction. A “wait and see” model will not help.

If your child is already fighting going to school, complaining of being too tired to read, discouraged, upset, or self conscious about reading, they need a unique program that meets their needs and fits how their brain learns to read to regain their self-confidence and willingness to learn.

Teaching something the same way that is not working over and over again will not get results.

If your child is struggling with spelling, letter formations, reading fluently or accuracy – it’s not their fault! Not all instructional methods or reading programs address the difficulty children have with connecting the code to speech sounds.

They need a different reading program-one that is right for how their brain is wired.

Hearing the sounds in some blends can be very challenging for students with phonological processing deficits. Just teaching ”Phonics” is not always enough. All phonics programs are not created equally!

Assessment

The first step in working with me is to book an assessment.

I will review my findings with you immediately after the session, and walk you through a plan of action and scope and sequence for your child to move forward. This will be individualized specifically for your child. If the program is a a good fit for you and your child, we would then proceed to scheduling the weekly lessons.

The Program / Lessons

  • One-on-one in-person sessions each week
  • Multi-sensory, speech to print reading/writing program specifically geared toward the needs of your child (NOT a scripted/boxed program) that also addresses the emotional aspect of learning/reading
  • Letter formation/handwriting – every letter of the alphabet is corrected so that inversing and flipping letters no longer occur.
  • Parent training so you’re empowered to help your child progress through the program and read at grade-level or above
  • Access to me in between sessions for support

Personalized Support

There’s nothing wrong with your child!

They just need to learn to read a very specific way that works well for THEIR brain.

Parents often feel they are doing something wrong or something is wrong with their child because they aren’t reading in school and learning like other children. They are perfect… exactly as they are. It just requires knowledge of their unique brain structure and proper instructional methods. I’m happy to help you get there!

Navigating School

I also help families navigate school testing, IEP meetings, and grade level curriculum
